Research Dialogue Hub on Penglais Campus
In 2023, the Dialogue Centre opened Aberystwyth University’s Research Dialogue Hub in the Visualisation Centre on Penglais campus.
Known as ‘Tŷ Trafod’, these specially designed rooms offer an open gathering space for researchers and external partners as well as adaptable set ups for knowledge exchange and dialogue events.
Tŷ Trafod has two rooms. A large lounge and meeting space on the ground floor is equipped with whiteboards, sofas, tables and chairs, as well as a kitchenette for making coffee and tea. On the first floor, there’s a smaller breakout meeting room set out in a board room style.
Most of the time, the space is open to all research academic staff as a place to gather with each other and to host external guests. All research academic staff have access to Tŷ Trafod between 9am and 5pm on weekdays via their staff card.
Any academic research staff can also reserve Tŷ Trafod for special events and meetings.
The research dialogue hub has extra furniture and supplies to suit the purposes of different kinds of knowledge exchange events. The room can accommodate lounge, theatre, committee, and dialogue workshop layouts. It comfortably fits 40 attendees for workshops or 60 attendees in a theatre setting. Those reserving the space are responsible for arranging the furniture to meet their needs.
From October 2023, the downstairs space will have cameras, microphones and speakers for hosting hybrid events.
To reserve Tŷ Trafod for a research or knowledge exchange event, please send your event’s date, time, title, and purpose to dialogue@aber.ac.uk using ‘Tŷ Trafod’ in the subject line.
University staff can find out when Tŷ Trafod is reserved by searching ‘Tŷ Trafod’ on their Microsoft Outlook Room List. At all other times, the space is open for informal use by researchers.
